Julie Johansen at Lectra takes a sneak peek into the Nuprimary studios and shares with the Lectra audience the story of our Creative Director, Craig Tudhope.
Craig speaks about his early years as a print designer to working for 7th Ave design houses and how technology has evolved his process.
"What’s your perception of technology use in the fashion industry today?
It’s vital. There is really no margin for error. Everyone is working on multiple seasons at the same time. It would be impossible to communicate artwork properly, especially color, without technology. I remember having to cut out fabric chips, label them and physically mail them to factories in Korea. This is just such a waste of time.
Using Kaledo at Nuprimary, I can send my printer all my new fabrics to print on a Monday (in the UK) and I get them back 3 days later. It’s amazing
How does new technology supplement “the old way” of working?Well, I still hand paint everything I do. Technology is a way of taking my artwork and manipulating it in a way that makes it new and impossible to recreate if I even tried to create it by hand.
I think there will always be a need for things that are created by hand. It makes it personal. Using technology is a way of enhancing your personality. "
